Jon Shaw’s work documents the urban landscape of Vancouver. Outdated alleyway structures, graffiti, trash and other objects are recreated through layers of ink drawing, acrylic puddles and bold stenciling on wood panels.
Jon is fascinated by the rapidly-changing landscape of the city’s less-appreciated locales. He finds that alleyways and industrial complexes contain the most interesting and dense components which really show true character.
For Jon, documenting these structures is important now, since rapid urban growth often means that within a year or two, these landscapes no longer exist as he has painted them.
Jon Shaw is a full-time painter in Vancouver, BC, with BFA from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick. He moved to Vancouver in 2010 to begin his studio practice amongst the beautiful alleyways of the Downtown East Side.
