Asta Kovanen

I am a BC-born and raised artist working mainly with natural dyes and fibres in slow-to-execute textile techniques. I am interested in material explorations and our modern intersections with natural environments (“geography is destiny”); the process of creating inspires creating. I completed the Textile Arts Diploma program at Capilano University in 2013 and continue to learn traditional, pan-cultural textile processes.

In October, I will be heading to Finland for a month-long residency exploring natural colours of the boreal forest as well as my Finnish heritage. I am currently based in Whistler, BC.
